Dr Satoru Sumitsuji

Osaka University, Japan

Dr Sumitsuji is an Interventional Cardiologist, focusing on complex PCI (especially CTOPCI) and Imaging (IVUS, CT).

He graduated from Kumamoto University in 1990 then began his training in interventional cardiology in 1993. Besides the usual interventional training, he started IVUS work for both clinical research and guidance of complex PCI procedures.

From 1998 to 2006 he worked at Rinku General Medical Center as Chief, Department of Interventional Cardiology and started cardiac CT work. His PCI style; Imaging supported complex PCI was widely accepted not only in Japan but also overseas.

From 2007, he worked with Osaka University and now he is Endowed Chair Professor of Department of Cardiology for International Education and Research, which enhances his outbound work in foreign countries to 30 – 40 times a year. The outbound work has been performed in East Asia, South Asia, West Asia, Middle East, North Africa, Europe, US, and Oceania. Currently he is focusing on PCI treatment for Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO).  

With his experience in Imaging (IVUS and CT) and histologic perspective, he is developing CTOPCI with higher success rate, less complications and a shorter procedure time. He is now sharing his experience in CTOPCI with doctors worldwide.
