Live Case Centres

This year’s live case centres will come from the Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, the Royal Adelaide Hospital and The National Heart Centre, Singapore.

The program will be highly interactive with national and international experts discussing cases, interventional techniques and strategies. Live case transmissions will be interlaced with lectures, reviewing the latest clinical studies.

These lectures are planned to provide a forum for all interventional cardiologists, trainees, cath lab nurses and staff in Australia and New Zealand to discuss various approaches to cardiovascular interventions.

Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide

The Royal Adelaide Hospital Interventional Service is the largest service in the state performing approximately 1000 PCI a year.  It was the first Interventional Service in the state to commence a 24 hour primary PCI program.  The clinical service has a strong radial access focus, with this access site being used in greater than 80% of cases as well as an emerging same day PCI program. All angiogram and angioplasty data is prospectively collected for auditing and research purposes by the state based CADOSA registry.

The unit has a strong research focus.  It has been involved with a number of invasive coronary physiology protocols along with large clinical and investigator lead trials of intravascular imaging (IVUS), studying invasive endothelial function and plaque progression. These protocols have used standard grey scale IVUS as well as optical coherence tomography and near-infrared imaging technology.

This research focus is also observed in a strong history of first-in-man new device studies.  These studies have not only included new stent technology but have also involved a number of new devices in a strong structural heart program.  These have included studies in left atrial appendage devices, mitra-clip technology, renal denervation and transcutaneous aortic valve implantation devices.
